Confirmation

Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.”  (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285)

Confirmation for high school students

  • Normally, the preparation process towards confirmation begins at the beginning of the student’s freshman year and continues for two years. High school students receive confirmation near the end of their second high school year.  Students may also begin the process after their freshman year, but these would be an exception.
  • Students will be required to attend formation classes which are separate from the weekly youth ministry gatherings, which is also required. Normally the separate formation classes are held during the weekday, once a week, several times a month.
  • These confirmation students will normally be confirmed by one of the bishops of the Diocese of Orange.
  • This preparation process is to help students come to a greater sense of personal ownership of their Catholic faith, and to deepen their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

To register please contact the youth minister.

Confirmation for adults (post high school)

  • Adults who which to receive the sacrament of confirmation must attend the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) classes which begins in August and continues until about one month after Easter.
  • Adult candidates will receive their confirmation on the following Pentecost Sunday.
  • Choosing to receive this sacrament is a Catholic person’s way of completing initiation in the Catholic Church, and strengthens one’s resolve to more fully live the teachings of the Catholic Church and deepen one’s relationship with Jesus Christ.

To register please contact the RCIA coordinator.
